When choosing and forming an LLC the company name is very important. Many people may choose the first name they think of or people may choose an already existing name. Most company's on the other hand want to choose names that clearly distinguish themselves from their competition. There are many different reasons for choosing a company name.
Most people end up choosing something personal when selecting their own business name. A simple browse through a local newspaper would proved many personalized business portfolio names. Johnson Johnson, TJ & Smith, BI+L are all some examples of what could be found. One24 is another example. This may instantly make a company recognizable locally, it can be deemed as more personal by its customers, and often works well within geographical areas. This really does very little to tell your new customers what you are all about.
A descriptive name is a very popular choice for a small business. This shows a client how your company operates; and what industry it is in. Examples of this may be to call your business The Window Company Limited, City IT Consultants Limited or The Advertising Agency Limited. This may reinforce your main business but it really does not set you aside from your competition.
The less personal approach would be a generic and associative company name. This type of name really helps build a connection with your consumers. It is less direct than using a descriptive name but helps to position your company's name within the market through peoples understanding of what words mean. For example a flick through the Yellow Pages will offer plenty of examples of this. A barber called Brookside Cuts or a printing shop called "Select Prints" may be an example. These names usually offer some soft of difference but do not completely set your company apart from your competition.
A freestanding company name can also work well. These names are completely abstract and not related to the companies business activities. One fictional example would be to call your catering company Henry Limited. There a many different types of brand names that all prove this point. Names like Apple and Facebook can instantly be recognized. This is one was to set yourself apart from your competitors. Will you clients be able to tell just from the name what type of business you are in?
When choosing a company name, it is so simple yet many people would like to sleep on it from quite a long time. It is possible to change a company name later down the road but it is best just to start off with one that satisfies you. Therefore consider your market, how much you want to differentiate from your competitors and what your company name should say about your organization. Once the decision is made focus on the important business of making your company a success.
